Treatment
What is Physiotherapy?
Physiotherapy plays a vital role in helping to restore the body’s normal movement and function when someone is affected by injury, illness or disability. Treatment facilitates the body’s own natural healing mechanism using movement, exercise, manual therapy, education and advice.
Physiotherapy helps people to stay at work, return to sport and remain as active and independent as possible. The patient’s involvement in their own care is at the core of the treatment.
Treatments include:
- Advice/exercises
- Joint mobilisation
- Soft tissue release
- Pain management
- TENS
- Acupuncture
- Posture re-education
- Occupational health advice
What Should I Expect at my First Appointment?
During the initial consultation a full, comprehensive and functional assessment of your condition will take place in addition to details of your past medical history, medication, hobbies and occupation.
At the end of the initial consultation a diagnosis of the problem will be given and explained. A treatment plan will then be discussed with you. Angela will work with you to find out what your expectations are, what you enjoy and what you would like to get back to doing to ensure the rehabilitation programme is tailored to you and realistic timed goals are set. If appropriate, printed exercises will be provided to aid your recovery.
Follow up appointments will take place as required and will focus on reassessment of the initial condition, treatment and evaluation of progress.
